Annotated Japanese Castle
The Japanese castles are carefully arranged structures to keep attacking armies out. They were built in certain areas where they could guard things like roads or rivers. Generally made out of wood and stone, they were usually 3-5 stories tall with towers or turrets that served as watch towers or moon viewing towers. Small windows were placed at different areas on the outside of the castle so that rocks and hot sand could be thrown on the attackers down below. The high walls at the base of the castle were made out of stones packed tightly so that no foot holes were available, making it hard for attackers to climb up to the actual castle. The inside of the castles walls were stone to keep the castle extra protected.
